Апстракт за предавањето:
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been recognized as a fundamental enabling technology for a wide range of applications in environmental monitoring, healthcare, security, and industrial domains, among others, due to the flexible distribution of WSN devices. Nodes in a (WSN) traditionally have limited power supply, while networks are often expected to be functional for extended periods. Therefore, the minimization of energy consumption and the maximization of network lifetime are key objectives in WSN. One major research effort focuses on reducing power consumption, especially communication power, as the radio transceiver is one of the highest power consumers in WSNs. Moreover, with the advent of energy-neutral systems, the emphasis has shifted towards research in micro-Watt (or even nano-Watt) communication protocols or systems. Тhis talk will present both the design and architecture of nano-power wake up radio and power management at node level can exploit the that technology to extend the life time of the wireless devices.

Michele Magno received his master and PhD degree in electronic, computer science and telecommunication engineering at the University of Bologna. Currently he is postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich and Research Fellow at University of Bologna in Prof.Luca Benini’s group. From June 2012 to November 2013 he was a senior postdoctoral at the embedded system group in University College Cork. He is also a visiting researcher at Electronics, Antennas and Telecomunication Laboratory (LEAT) in Polytech of Sophia Antipolis, Nice from November 2014 to March 2015. The most important themes of his research are Wireless Sensor Network(WSN), power management techniques and extension of the lifetime of (WSN), low power embedded devices and sensors applications. His research has led to interest in the hardware and software co-design of intelligent devices, tracking systems, wearable devices, video surveillance, energy harvesting, sensors and wake up radios. As main scientist he followed several EU and National projects and collaborated with several universities and research center such as University of Trento, University of British Columbia, Imperial College London, Politecnico di Torino, Tyndall Institute, and many others. He has published more than 60 papers in international publications, including 14 of the scientific journals.
